Immune app: how it works and how to download anti-coronavirus to your phone

After months of experimentation it has finally arrived the Immuni app which will help citizens in Italy to check, track and warn in case of contact with a coronavirus infection. Downloadable on your phone for free and without any registration (in order for it to work, you only need to answer a few questions), so that the privacy of each person is protected and no private data (from the name to the telephone number or address) is used to then trace the identity of the citizens, unfortunately today, Thursday 4 June, it works in only 4 regions: Puglia, Abruzzo, Marche and Liguria. While from 12 June it will also be downloadable throughout the rest of Italy and seeing that in the first 24 hours of its release it has been downloaded by over 500 thousand users, it will surely continue its climb all over the Peninsula.

The only flaw, however, is that not all phones are compatible with the release of the Immuni application and therefore does not work on all smartphones, as the Questions & Answers FAQ of the official website explain. A problem that everyone hopes will be solved soon given that the app helps us fight the Covid-19 epidemic, and potentially in the future it may also be used in other cases.

How to download it on the Apple Store and Google Play

All you need is a compatible smartphone to immediately download the Immuni app and safely track the movements and contacts we have had with other people. If you have a iPhone you necessarily need one iOS version 13.5 or higher before downloading the anti-COVID app 19. If it is not possible to update the system of your Apple smartphone then you cannot download it in the Apple Store. THE iPhone models that support iOS 13.5 are the following: 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, Xr, Xs, Xs Max, X, SE (2nd generation), 8, 8 Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE (1st generation).

While if you have one Android smartphone to download the Immuni app you need a smartphone equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy, Android version 6 (Marshmallow, API 23) or higher and Google Play Services version 20.18.13 or higher, to then be able to search and download the Immuni app on the Google Play Store.

How Immuni works

Once you download Immuni to your phone, thanks to Bluetooth technology only, it will be possible to enter the notification system that warns users if and when they have been exposed to a potentially contagious coronavirus citizen, even in the case of a person asymptomatic (which in any case by law should isolate itself and undergo the quarantine regime).

Totally anonymous in case of contact with an infected person, a notification will arrive on your smartphone who will communicate the proximity between the two users and therefore the possible risk of contagion, without knowing who the people actually are and where they met. The Immuni app in fact continuously emits a Bluetooth signal that generates a random code so as not to keep any memory of the various connected devices.

Once a series of warnings have been received, Immuni will help the possible one infected behaviors that must follow, having just come into contact with a sick person. Among these is the invitation to prevention, self-isolation and testing or diagnostic swab. It is also essential to minimize contacts with people so as not to infect others. So by being informed promptly, users can (should) contact your primary care physician and thus reduce the risk of contracting the coronavirus. Not being mandatory but only optional, Immuni is fundamentally based on the common sense of the citizens, the responsibility and the courageous virtual admission of those who are positive for COVID-19.
