Double the deaths in Milan and Monza in April 2020 compared to March 2019 due to the coronavirus. But a drop in overall national mortality compared to last month. This is what ISTAT data highlights in the report published on June 4.
“The most important decrease in terms of deaths and percentage variation is observed in Lombardy – reads the document -, the deaths for the total number of cases decrease from 24,893 in March to 16,190 in April 2020 and the excess of deaths compared to the average in the same months of the period 2015-2019 it drops from 188.1% to 107.5%. The provinces most affected by the epidemic are the ones in which the most significant reductions are observed. Bergamo and Lodi are the areas in which the drop in the mortality was more pronounced, the excess mortality dropped from 571% in March to 123% in April in Bergamo and from 377% to 79.9% in Lodi “.
At national level, total deaths drop from 80,623 in March to 64,693 in April and the estimate of excess mortality goes from an average increase of 48.6% in March (26,350 more deaths in 2020 compared to the 2015-2019 average) to 33.6% in April (16,283 more deaths). Unfortunately, excess mortality is still high in April 2020, at levels similar to those of March, in the provinces of Milan (98% more than the 2015-2019 average), Pavia (135%) and Monza and Brianza (101%).
