Death of George Floyd: Photos of protests from around the world

Almost a week after the death of George Floyd, killed by police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, America is on fire: demonstrations and protests are taking place in major cities, from Los Angeles to Washington, from New York to Louisville, Kentucky, to Daveport in Iowa. During the demonstrations clashes were recorded and there were six victims. Over 4,000 people have been arrested in around 20 cities, including over 500 in Los Angeles and 250 y New York. Among them there is also Chiara de Blasio, the 25-year-old daughter of the mayor of New York.

The demonstrations then spread more peacefully to the whole world, to London, for example, and to Dublin, where many placards with the last words spoken by George Floyd were paraded: “I can’t breathe”, I can’t breathe.

In Great Britain, Liverpool took to the field remembering Floyd: all the players knelt imitating the gesture of Colin Kaepernick, American football player who in 2016 got on his knees during the performance of the American anthem, explaining it thus: ” I will not be standing to show my pride for the flag of a country that oppresses blacks and ethnic minorities. “

In London, the actor John Boyega, Finn in the Star Wars trilogy, gave a passionate speech during a protest in Hyde Park: “The lives of black people have always counted, we have always been important. We always meant something. We have always managed to do it despite everything. And now is the time. I no longer wait. “
