Promote bicycle mobility by allowing, even if only for an experimental period, to transport all types of bikes on public transport in Milan at any time of the day and day of the week. It is the sense of a motion presented by the 5 Star Movement and approved by the city council with 28 in favor and 8 abstentions. The motion also envisages incentives (starting from municipal employees) for methods such as “bike to work”, following the example of similar experiences abroad, for example by counting travel time as working hours.
“We are very satisfied that this proposal has passed,” is the comment of Patrizia Bedori, city councilor of the M5s. “To encourage sustainable and integrated mobility and facilitate those who use the bike to move around the city, we asked to start a trial period in order to widen the time slots to transport the bikes both by subway and on surface vehicles”.
Phase 2, Milan and the Milanese “focus” on bicycles
After the end of the lockdown due to the health emergency from Covid-19, in Milan there is a “boom” in bicycles, both traditional and pedal-assisted. The bike bonus provided by the government (up to € 500 to cover 60% of the price of a bike) further favored what appears to be a real collective transition towards two-wheeled mobility. The Municipality of Milan is preparing tracks and cycle lanes at the speed of light, for example on the axis from Bisceglie to Bande Nere and on the one from San Babila to Sesto San Giovanni. The idea is to create 23 new kilometers of cycle paths.
