“Aria di Cultura” is born, the project of the Municipality of Milan to support the world of Milanese operators and encourage the process of restarting the cultural initiatives organized in the summer months, in full compliance with the security measures defined by the Government and the Lombardy Region. The “Air of culture” project, approved today by the Board, will accompany live entertainment operators, organizers and citizens throughout the summer, from June 15th to September 21st, with a schedule of summer cultural initiatives dedicated to dance, cinema, to the theater, to the performing arts, but also to initiatives for the promotion of reading and for bringing the public closer to the collections and art exhibitions after the lockdown period.
“The resumption of Milanese cultural activities is characterized by the recovery of the essence of the live show, namely the co-presence of artists and spectators, and by the absolute centrality of the public open space – declared the councilor for culture Filippo Del Corno – In fact, most of the initiatives will take place in the open air, both for the approaching summer season and for the restrictions on the presence of the public in closed places. Milan wants to return to live in the open air and wants to return to breathe culture, respecting, however, always, the provisions in force to protect public health “.
All the initiatives, created and produced by the city’s cultural subjects for the summer 2020, from 15 June to 21 September, will be coordinated in a single calendar promoted through the website of the Municipality of Milan and social channels. A control room inside the Culture Directorate will evaluate the artistic proposals presented by subjects who intend to carry out cultural initiatives in the summer.
The initiatives included in the calendar will be identified through the official logo of the Municipality of Milan together with that of the “Aria di cultura” program, specifically created by the Communication Department. A series of measures to support operators has been designed to accompany the resumption of cultural activities. In particular, the municipal administration will be able to provide free outdoor spaces – courtyards, cloisters, spaces belonging to libraries and museums, public road and green areas – and will ensure the acceptance of the applications presented within 15 days prior to event (instead of the 30 ordinarily requested) for the purpose of obtaining the necessary authorizations.
Sforzesca Summer: 81 shows from June to September
It is also envisaged – following a case by case assessment – the elimination or reduction to 50% of the security deposit for small land occupations. The Municipality of Milan will also offer its own productions, such as the Summer Sforzesca festival which, now in its eighth edition, represents the heart of the “Aria di Cultura” show program. Dedicated to music, theater and dance, Estate Sforzesca will offer on the stage of the Castello Sforzesco, from 21 June to 3 September, 81 shows – 48 of music, 29 of theater and 4 of dance – and will constitute a real post-emergency phase and its own testing platform for new production processes and new forms of open access, quota and relationship between the public and live entertainment artists.
