Almost 20 thousand liters of ethyl alcohol were donated by the Foggia security guard to the civil protection of the Metropolitan City of Milan, which will use them to produce sanitization products intended for clinical laboratories and hospitals. At the same time and for the same purpose, 2 thousand liters were donated to the Ospedali Riuniti of Foggia and one thousand to the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Puglia and Basilicata.
The alcohol comes from the maxi seizure carried out in February 2020 by the financiers of Manfredonia during an operation to combat the illicit trafficking of alcoholic products introduced into Italian territory without acquiring excise duties and VAT. Another 10,000 liters, coming from the same seizure, had been donated to the Foggia local health authority and to the San Giovanni Rotondo hospital.
The donation is particularly useful given that ethyl alcohol is still almost impossible to find on the market, but it is very useful for the sanitization procedures still necessary for the health emergency from Covid-19. So the Foggia judicial authority released the alcohol by ordering its transfer, while the Customs and Monopolies Agency issued three authorizations for the transfer and subsequent use of alcohol for the production of solutions for the sanitation of hospitals, exempting tax.
