Channel 5 owner Richard Desmond is rumoured to be contemplating the sale of the channel. If he does so you can be pretty sure his newspapers, the Express and the Daily Star, will no longer think Channel 5 shows such as Big Brother are worthy of the front page. But for now, Desmond's papers are once again doing their best to promote his channel's flagship reality TV show in the thinly veiled guise of news:
Earlier this year, parent company Northern & Shell announced it had unified its commercial teams across its print and television properties. This created what it described as a "leading-edge, innovative multimedia solution, utilising the full repertoire of assets in the Northern & Shell portfolio". In layman's terms that means the Daily Star and Express are duty-bound to make Big Brother look more attractive to advertisers by trying to drum up viewers for the show.
