Yahoo! has a new logo and not just any logo. Its new logo is "whimsical, yet sophisticated" according to CEO Marissa Mayer who was very much involved in the design. See for yourself:
Mayer added that it is "modern and fresh, with a nod to our history. Having a human touch, personal. Proud".
And in case you're wondering, they "preferred letters that had thicker and thinner strokes - conveying the subjective and editorial nature of some of what we do".
But of course. That was obvious. As is the nine degree tilt on the exclamation point which was done "just to add a bit of whimsy".
Mayer went on to explain:
"We wanted colours that suggested the logo would be strong enough to carry a pig across a deep river, yet sensitive enough to cry when watching a romantic comedy with its girlfriends."
"It felt like the logo needed to be 60% "oh yeah!" and 40% "who me?" - not confused about its identity but open to the idea it was still on a journey, not yet there. It's an Easter bunny with the heart of a lion."
...ok, I made up those last two quotes.
